Connecting the Balance Pipes

Injection Models:

Ideally you should have run your Mini virtually bone dry of fuel before attempting this job. Remove the left hand tank and strip out the fuel pump and tank sender unit.

Please ensure all the fuel is drained from the tank and the tank is left ‘to air’ for 24 hours before attempting to drill the tank.

Drill a 5/16” (8mm) hole in the angled flat section at the bottom of the tank. This section can be found at the bulkhead end of the tank on the inside edge, ie. by the spare wheel well.

Having drilled the hole, the tank adapter should be a snug fit. If necessary, use a round file to achieve this snug fit. Remove any swarf from the tank and clean the edges of the drill hole before final fitting.

It is imperative this adapter is bonded in place using a fuel resistant two pack epoxy resin as well as the nuts and copper washers. Leave to cure for at least 12 hours before filling the tank with fuel.

Refit the left hand tank and connect the balance pipe ensuring the balance pipe does not foul the spare wheel. Secure in place with ‘P’ clips as required.

Part fill both tanks and check for any leaks…. It is important on injection models that the left hand tank is filled first as the fuel pump will need to pick up its fuel from this tank.
