Fitting the Right Hand Fuel Tank
Part No: WPA 9583X
The fitting of the Right Hand Tank is the same for both Injection and Carburettor model of Minis.
Ideally your Mini will need to be virtually bone dry of fuel. Remember, most Minis’ will have at least a couple of gallons of fuel in the tank even though the fuel gauge reads empty.
If your Mini has a boot mounted washer bottle, this will need to be removed. Please ensure that you cut the mounting bracket as flush with the wheel arch as possible, as you will need the main part of the bracket to re-locate the position of the washer bottle to complete the job.
Cutting the hole in the rear quarter panel for the tank neck is the trickiest part of the job….! So please take great care and do not rush this part of the job.
The position of the hole is exactly the same as for the Left Hand Tank. We can supply a template, but we prefer the old fashioned method of measuring the Left Hand Tank position and replicating this onto the right side quarter panel. Use masking tape in the area in question so you do not risk damaging the painted surface.
Once you are happy with the position of the intended hole, use a good quality 70mm metal hole cutter (available from most builders merchants) to cut the hole. You may consider the expense of a hole cutter unnecessary, especially as you may never need it again, but take it from us, it will save you a lot of hassle and you can always loan/rent it to other like minded Mini enthusiasts embarking on the same mission.
With the hole drilled your tank will now slide into position.
Fit the Bulkhead mounting with the stud facing upwards. The fitting position is 120mm down from the rear parcel shelf to the top edge of the bracket and 290mm in from the right hand rear quarter panel, ie the mounting will straggle the third rib of the rear bulkhead. Before drilling any holes in the rear bulkhead please ensure you remove the rear seats as you will need to have access to both sides of the rear bulkhead.
